Well, indeed it gives /var/log/messages without the ` ` i insert as you told echo $inputfiles before line 158 in fwanalog.sh i still receive the same output.

soekris [~]: /etc/fwanalog/fwanalog.sh

fwanalog: No input files in the '/var/log' directory named messages* and under 31 days old.
